Mogadishu, May 20, 2025: The Green Media Initiative (GMI) collaborated with the Federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) to support a three-day capacity-building workshop held in Mogadishu, focusing on Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) and National Biodiversity Targets.
The training brought together 30 participants representing various government institutions, ministries, and environmental agencies, alongside experts and civil society actors. The workshop aimed to enhance understanding, coordination, and national cooperation on protecting and restoring degraded lands, while strengthening ongoing efforts to conserve Somalia’s rich biodiversity.
During the workshop, GMI facilitated a session on the role of media in environmental advocacy, emphasizing how ministries can collaborate with media platforms to raise public awareness and engage communities in land restoration and biodiversity conservation initiatives.

As part of this collaboration, GMI and MoECC co-produced an awareness video on the impacts of land degradation in Somalia, featuring ministry staff and later broadcast across GMI’s digital platforms. This initiative reflects a growing model of partnership between Somalia’s public institutions and independent media — combining co-creation, communication, and community engagement for greater environmental impact.
