Green Media Initiative (GMI) is Somalia’s leading environmental and climate communication organization, committed to advancing public awareness, climate action, environmental advocacy, and sustainable development across Somalia. Through media, research, storytelling, advocacy, and community engagement, GMI works to make climate and environmental issues more accessible, relatable, and action-oriented for communities, institutions, and young people.

Our work includes documentaries, podcasts, radio programs, educational campaigns, digital storytelling, research initiatives, and public engagement activities that highlight environmental challenges, climate impacts, sustainable solutions, and community resilience. We aim to strengthen public understanding of climate change and encourage proactive responses to environmental challenges affecting both rural and urban communities.

GMI also provides strategic communication and outreach support for government institutions, development organizations, environmental initiatives, and private sector actors working in sustainability, agriculture, renewable energy, and climate resilience. In addition, we deliver capacity-building programs in environmental journalism, climate communication, mobile storytelling, and media production for journalists, youth, students, and institutional teams across Somalia.

Our focus areas include climate action, environmental awareness, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, disaster preparedness, biodiversity conservation, and youth engagement in climate leadership. We work to promote climate-smart adaptation, early warning awareness, clean energy solutions, and sustainable practices that help communities become more resilient and less vulnerable to climate-related crises.
