Green Media Initiative (GMI) is Somalia’s first and only dedicated green media and environmental advocacy organization, committed to advancing public awareness, policy engagement, and community action around climate change, sustainability, and environmental protection. Our core work includes the production of documentaries, radio programs, podcasts, public service announcements, educational videos, and digital campaigns that highlight environmental challenges, green solutions, and community-led innovations. We deliver compelling, culturally relevant content that informs, inspires, and mobilizes people from all walks of life—from rural farmers to urban youth, policymakers to civil society leaders.

We also design and implement strategic communication support for government ministries, development partners, and private sector organizations working in the sustainability sector. This includes media planning, campaign development, content localization, stakeholder engagement, and field documentation—ensuring that environmental programs are not only visible but also understood and supported by the public. In addition, GMI plays a key role in community engagement and capacity-building, offering training programs in environmental journalism, mobile storytelling, climate communication, and media production for journalists, students, and institutional teams across Somalia.

Our thematic focus spans climate action, sustainable agriculture, water and energy access, biodiversity conservation, disaster preparedness, and youth engagement in environmental leadership. We are particularly passionate about empowering farmers to adopt climate-resilient practices and promoting green innovation in Somalia’s most vulnerable communities.
