Ahmed Absie is an award-winning journalist and environmental advocate, recognized as Influencer of the Year 2025 by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). He is the Founding Director of Green Media Initiative (GMI) — Somalia’s first climate focused media platform — driving climate storytelling, public-interest communication, and environmental awareness. With more than 10 years of media experience, he has worked across Somalia and Somaliland supporting media development, climate communication, and environmental advocacy. He has trained over 300 journalists and collaborated with leading institutions and organizations on projects funded by major international partners. Ahmed holds a BSc in Agriculture & Environmental Science and an MA in Journalism and Communication, with strong expertise in climate change, research, and disaster risk reduction.
