Local Conference of Youth on Climate Change Somalia (LCOY Somalia)

LCOY Somalia (Local Conference of Youth Somalia) is a national youth-led climate conference organized under the framework of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). As part of the global LCOY movement taking place in more than 112 countries, the conference provides a platform for Somali youth to engage in climate dialogue, share innovative solutions, and contribute to national and global climate discussions.

Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Somalia 2026 is part of the global LCOY movement coordinated by YOUNGO, the official Children and Youth Constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Organized annually in more than 100 countries, LCOYs mobilize young people for climate action, strengthen youth participation in climate decision-making, and connect local priorities with regional and global climate processes.

As Somalia’s national youth climate conference, LCOY Somalia provides a platform for young people from across the country to discuss climate challenges, develop solutions, build leadership skills, and contribute to climate policy discussions. The conference brings together youth activists, students, researchers, innovators, community leaders, and youth organizations to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and advance climate action.

A key outcome of LCOY Somalia is the National Youth Climate Statement, which captures the perspectives, priorities, and recommendations of Somali youth. The statement contributes to regional and global youth climate processes through YOUNGO and helps ensure that the voices of Somali youth are represented in international climate discussions, including the annual Conference of the Parties (COP).

Since its first edition in 2024, LCOY Somalia has successfully engaged hundreds of young people from across the country. Building on the achievements of previous conferences, LCOY Somalia 2026 marks the third edition of the conference and will continue to empower youth, promote climate education and advocacy, foster innovation and collaboration, and strengthen Somalia’s contribution to the global youth climate movement.

At a time when Somalia faces increasing climate-related challenges, including droughts, floods, environmental degradation, and displacement, LCOY Somalia serves as an important platform for empowering young people to shape solutions, influence climate discussions, and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future.
